Nassau Bahamas

March 2, 2009

We are doing a project about living in other cities that are out of North America. I am doing Nassau Bahamas and it is just out of the USA and it is a really big city that almost takes up the whole Island. It only cost about 900 dollars to fly there from Ottawa. Houses there cost about 600 000 dollars and that’s for an average house for a big house it cost over one million dollars. We have to figure out if it would be a good place to put and office for a big business. We have to figure out the positive things about that place and the negative things about that place. The temperature is usually warm and the airfares are cheap. That is all i have to say about this project.

Response Journal 1

March 2, 2009

In this chapter Laurie was sitting in a chair chewing her pens waiting for the bell to ring and then she walked down the hall and saw her friend Amy in french class looking really bored so she decided to make a funny face so she would be happy. She did not want the teacher to see her so she stood where he could not see her. Amy saw her faces and almost started laughing but she had to cover her mouth so she wouldn’t. Amy started making funny faces too and Laurie wanted to make her laugh so she turned around to create suspense and to make the face then when she turned back around the teacher was standing right in front of her. She got embarrassed and Amy walked out and they went to their next class after the bell rang. Their next class was history and Mr. Ross was trying to figure out how to work the movie player then he asked one of his students to do it. The movie started and they saw all the dead bodies layed out, the smoke of burning flesh, the peoples legs where the knee was the widest part. After the movie ended people had lots of questions and most of them were questions that he did not know the answers to. The bell rang before he could say something and most of the people poured out of the room but the people that were most effected by the movie stayed for a little bit longer. David (Laurie’s Boyfriend) waited for Laurie but she did not go so he ran to the cafeteria and got food. By the time Laurie got David he already ate most of his food. Two people were coming from different directions and asked if they could sit there. After lunch they went to a room and locked the door because Amy was smoking and she did not want to get in trouble. Two people came to the door pretending to be the principle so Amy dropped her cigarette and tried to find gum and Laurie slowly walked to the door to open it. After they opened it they realized it was just their friends and Amy got mad at them for making her waste a cigarette.

Response: I wonder why some of the class mates were so effected by the video, because it happened in the past it should not happen again. I think that they should not be that effected it was only something that happened in the past and most of the people killed were Jewish and that’s what they were going to do. I think some of the characters are really smart because they actually understand the video and some of them sleep through it. “Were all the Germans Nazis?”  i think it is meaningful because you would think that all Germans are Nazis because they did not do anything about the concentration camps. My favorite part of the book was when the author explained what happened at the camps. Next i think they will do an experiment and figure out the answer to the questions. The way I would react is i would think the camps were really sick. A part that surprised me was when Amy was smoking in the room. In the chapters i read so far the author did not use any strong imagery.

Letter: Dear Laurie,

I was wondering why you were so upset when you saw the video, was it something you saw or was it just the feeling you had when you saw it? Another question i have is why wouldn’t you go with David to lunch, I mean he is your Boy Friend isn’t he? And for a last question i would like to know why you let Amy smoke in your office, Just because she is your friend does not mean you should let her smoke in there, you almost got caught. That is all the questions i have.

sincerely,

Josh
